judecowie@mac.com Posted 30 August , 2010 Share Posted 30 August , 2010 Hi All I am researching Harry Thompson of the 12th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles. He died on 06 July 1918 and is buried in Schoonselhof Cemetery - I would like to know where his unit was at this date and the circumstances of Harry's death - I would appreciate any help in these areas. Thanks all Regards John
Admin Michelle Young Posted 30 August , 2010 Admin Share Posted 30 August , 2010 As the cemetery is near Antwerp which was not a theatre of war at the time (briefly in 1914) so I am thinking Prisoner of War? Michelle

Desmond7 Posted 30 August , 2010 Share Posted 30 August , 2010 No firm facts from me .. But the link below will take you through from Jan 1918 through the March offensive and onwards. Michelle may have hit nail on head. Harry may well have gone into the POW 'bag' as a wounded man(?) in March 1918 when the battalion was scooped up by the German advance. Perhaps he was in Antwerp at a hospital or maybe even scheduled for repatriation .. or he coul dhave succumbed to 'flu/ill health etc. http://www.freewebs.com/denbob/ulsterdiv1918.htm
