Hi everyone,

Could anyone tell me what the 311th HS did, also what does HS mean? I'm researching a man who served with the the Dorsetshires (7th), 35th Training Batt, Devonshires and finally the 311th. I beleive he didnt leave the country at all, but if anyone could shine some light on what they did and where.

Also, I have been looking at his sons service record. On one day he is with 2 and 4 ATSC, the next week XIII CTSC and then temporarily attached to XIV CTSC.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

Thanks,

Joe.

HS means Home Service

311 was stationed at Southampton and was a Works Company.

Men in Works Companies were usually skilled tradesmen and they were allotted to work for the R.E. where needed.
