182 D.U.S

My Grandfather Sgt. Allen Aubrey Compton, R.A.S.C. served in Egypt, Malta, and possibly Jerusalem. I think his details must have been in those "burnt" as I have found nothing about him from the archives, but do have his passport, and medals etc.

He sent home some postcards mentioning on the back 182.D.U.S. Can anyone give me more info on this please. Two cards are very good photos of a soldier in uniform, but no further info. A 3rd photo is of a man who was made Cpl at Aldershot, the same time as my Grandfather. This was Cpl East who came from, or near Guildford, Sy. I should like to be able to return this to a family member if possible.

There is an Isaac East, who was promoted to corporal in the RASC, and who served in Egypt.

There are only three Isaac Easts on the 1911 census, one of these is from Guildford. He would have been around 45 at the start of the war. Does that fit with the man in your photo?
