RNRMedal Posted 28 August , 2010 Share Posted 28 August , 2010 Hello I have found a copy of the medal rolls at the PRO for my Grandfather who served in the RNR- trawler section it looks as though he gained the British war medal only. As on further reading of his service record he was removed from RNR strength on account of desertion in 1915. My Grandfather claims he was given leave. subsequently he seems to have been discharged. My question is would he of been entitled to any medals at all including the BWM or would he of been rewarded it. As I seem to think I read he wasn't although cannot find the documentation. Many thanks to those who could help. RNRrich
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 20 October , 2010 Share Posted 20 October , 2010 The medal roll would show his entitlement to medals. I think 'F' in the remarks column would indicated it was forfeited. Have you looked to see if he had a WW1 Merchant Seamen Medal Card? http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/browse-refine.asp?CatID=45&searchType=browserefine&pagenumber=1&query=*&queryType=
