Trying to find out where the 1st Batt NF were on 24th Sept 1917. My Gt Uncle Arthur Fisk 36894 KIA on that date (although he could have died of wounds from an earlier date?) remembered on Tyne Cot Memorial.

Any help appreciated. Many thanks.

1st NF were part of 9th Brigade, 3rd Division. The division was holding the line around Zevenkote. It attacked towards Zonnebeke on 26th September, so your great uncle was probably killed in the buildup to this attack. The war diary is online. You can purchase it for £3.50 from here.

9th Brigade, 3rd Division, V Corps, 5th Army.

Immediately to the left of the boundary with Plumer's 2nd Army.

The Battle of the Menin Road Ridge has just finished.

24th September.

Preparing to look after the left flank of the Aussies in their attack on Polygon Wood on the 26th September.

Simon.

Hi Wen

On 24th Sept the 1/NF were forward of the Hannebeke and Hannebeke Wood. They suffered shell-fire early on the 24th and the War Diary shows 18 casualties for the day, all about dawn. Sandilands is wary of this figure, feeling that there would have been more casualties but not recorded
