Remembered Today:

Body of Italian soldier found

I have a dim memory of hearing this morning on the Today Programme about the discovery of the body of an Italian soldier recently, the result of a glacier melting.

As I was barely half-awake at 06.20hrs, did anyone else hear more?

Thanks for that, PigHills - most moving.

You're better at Google Searches than I, as mine only turned-up a similar story about three Austrian soldiers from '04!

When you've finished reading that story, have a look at the one involving the auction of the medals to a British soldier, who served for over 50 years, including Sudan, WW1, Spanish Civil War and WW2.

What an amazing man!

Bruce,

A most interesting story. I think my wife's great uncle nearly parallels that. He fought in the Boer war, WW1 in the 10th Light Horse, transferred to the RFA then the RFC ending the war as a Flying officer (O).

Joined up again in 1939 (in South Africa) and became a Captain but didn't go overseas this time as he was 56 at the beginning of the war.

I hope that they can identify this poor fellow, and give him a proper burial. Please post any updates you find...very moving story.
