richenry Posted 23 August , 2010 Share Posted 23 August , 2010 from family history i am aware that my step grandfather was a member of the royal welsh fusiliers,a search of the medal roll index throws up one possibility - george worth. royal welsh fusiliers. private 61378. his mic indicates a sole campaign medal the british war medal, as i understand this indicates that he served overseas, but did not enter a theatre of war. this being the case can anybody help as to where he might have served ?? did any rwf battalions get posted to non war theatres ??. does his reg number indicate what battalion he was with ?? or what stage of the war he might have joined up. thanks in anticipation. rksimpson Posted 23 August , 2010 Share Posted 23 August , 2010 Hi Here is the list of the RWF battalions - http://www.1914-1918.net/rwf.htm If the battalion is not noted on the medal index card, then the only way to find it out is to look up the medal roll - http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/medals.htm Hopefully this will give you a start regards Robert
sotonmate Posted 25 August , 2010 Share Posted 25 August , 2010 richenry One step further is that the original Medal Roll is contained in Ledger WO329/1088 (J/2/102A page 132),and is viewable at the National Archives, not online unfortunately. There might be a bit more info on the Roll concerning dates, but not all unit Rolls are the same ! Sotonmate
