delta Posted 23 August , 2010 Share Posted 23 August , 2010 Checking the CWGC records, using the wonderful search engine developed by Geoff at Hut Six http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/about1.php I have found another D Company crewman 32481 Gnr Meyrick (Meurig) Gordon Jones was born April to June 1896 at Llanfyllin or Llanfaircarn in Montgomeryshire. He enlisted at Welshpool and his will was signed at Cann Office hotel at LLangadfan near Welshpool. Meurig served in D Coy and died on 2 Nov 1916 at 24th General Hospiital at Etaples; buried at plot XII. C. 18A. at Etaples military cemetery, probate was granted to Gertrude Mary Jones (spinster) on 19th Feb 1917. Effects were valued at £304 10s 2d. That's the official details but what of the man? Have you heard of him? Can you help me find out more?
clive_hughes Posted 23 August , 2010 Share Posted 23 August , 2010 An M.G.Jones is shown in the list of dead on the Llangadfan, Montgomeryshire section of the North Wales Heroes Memorial Arch at Bangor, Gwynedd: http://www.bangorcivicsociety.org.uk/pages/arch/DSCF4317.htm No sign of that name under Llanfyllin or Welshpool (not sure where Llanfaircarn is - if short for Llanfair Caereinion, he isn't on that section either).
