Nigel Marshall Posted 21 August , 2010 Share Posted 21 August , 2010 I would be very grateful if anyone could tell me anything about this sub-unit of the Labour Corps. Location, life-span, establishment, nature of agricultural employment. Anything at all would put me further forward than when I am now! My subject doesn't have any presence at Ancestry, not even a MIC, but he is listed by CWGC. Cheers, Nigel
Ivor Lee Posted 22 August , 2010 Share Posted 22 August , 2010 Nigel 509 had its HQ at York. I have identified it in existence in January 1919 and possibly disbanded in April 1919. I have not found evidence that it was in existence in 1918. The men would have been employed on farms and usually lived at the farm or at home. The HQ was purely an Administrative Unit Regards Ivor
Nigel Marshall Posted 22 August , 2010 Author Share Posted 22 August , 2010 Thank you very much Ivor. I can't say if James Cockrem was still in service at his death in 1920 but I do know he was a farm labourer and is buried in his home village. Your information is much appreciated.
