dave ricketts Posted 21 August , 2010 Share Posted 21 August , 2010 I note from the main site that 8th Division were involved in the Battles of Pilkem & Langemarck. I am therefore supposing that 22 DLI were also involved. Can anyone tell me what they were up to in August from any histories or their War Diary? Thanks a lot. Robert Dunlop Posted 21 August , 2010 Share Posted 21 August , 2010 There is no mention of 22 DLI in the day-by-day account of Third Ypres. 10, 12, 13, 15 and 20th Battalions are all referenced as having been involved. 8th Division's War Diary mentions that 22 DLI moved to Dominion Camp on 5th August 1917. Only part of 8th Division was involved in the mid-August attack near Westhoek. Robert
Steven Broomfield Posted 21 August , 2010 Share Posted 21 August , 2010 The only mention in the Divisional History I can find for the period (p 145) states that on the 16th, "The hand bridges, accurately placed in position by carrying parties of 22/DLI (Pioneer Battalion) under Major J D Mitchell, enabled the Hannebeek Stream to be crossed without a check and progress was successfully continued up the Anzac Spur towards our objectives on the Ridge (the Green Line)" Can't see anything else. dave ricketts Posted 21 August , 2010 Author Share Posted 21 August , 2010 Robert/Steve, Thanks for your rapid replies. I will dig out the War Diary on my next trip to Kew. Cheers, Dave
