Peter Yes...but I cannot remember! I am at work but will send you the name when I get home. I have transcribed the entire diary and it's in there somewhere. This is the Diary entry. 7/10/1918 Bright, but very cold. Battn. moved in buses to new area at INCHY. Owing to heavy roads the buses only arrived at 2am on the 8th inst. Sick to Hospital 4 ORs. Lt Col AJ WELCH sick. Lt Col R D Gardiner Sea. Highrs temporary CO.

peterhodgkinson Posted 19 August , 2010 Author Share Posted 19 August , 2010 Actually, Richard Dyce Gard'ner, a Seaforth regular who'd spent a lot of the war with the West Africa Frontier Force.
4thGordons Posted 19 August , 2010 Share Posted 19 August , 2010 Actually, Richard Dyce Gard'ner, a Seaforth regular who'd spent a lot of the war with the West Africa Frontier Force. Quite correct...I just reexamined the diary (see attached). Thanks for the correction. It seems Gard'ner was only in Command for a couple of weeks, then Welch returned and then, shortly after the armistice Welch left to command 15th Inf Brigade (27/11) and the diary entry for Nov 1918 is signed by Maj. James A. Gordon. Chris
