Does anyone know who commanded the 4th Gordon Highlanders after Lt-Col AJ Welch who left approx 8/10/1918?

Peter

Yes...but I cannot remember!

I am at work but will send you the name when I get home. I have transcribed the entire diary and it's in there somewhere.

I think I lied... after wracking my brains I think it was R D Gardiner (Lt Colonel, Seaforth Highlanders)

Here you go! This is the Diary entry.

7/10/1918 Bright, but very cold. Battn. moved in buses to new area at INCHY. Owing to heavy roads the buses only arrived at 2am on the 8th inst. Sick to Hospital 4 ORs. Lt Col AJ WELCH sick. Lt Col R D Gardiner Sea. Highrs temporary CO.

Actually, Richard Dyce Gard'ner, a Seaforth regular who'd spent a lot of the war with the West Africa Frontier Force.

Quite correct...I just reexamined the diary (see attached). Thanks for the correction.

It seems Gard'ner was only in Command for a couple of weeks, then Welch returned and then, shortly after the armistice Welch left to command 15th Inf Brigade (27/11) and the diary entry for Nov 1918 is signed by Maj. James A. Gordon.
