Cathy Posted 15 August , 2010 Share Posted 15 August , 2010 Ernest Douglas Powell was born in Swindon Wiltshire 1894.Not sure if he joined the Army from London or Portsmouth,Hants. The MIC shows the Victory, British and Star. 26th Brigade Royal Field Artiliary.Regt. No67203 Qualifying Date 16-8-14 I cannot see any reference to wounds etc. Can I find anything else from the MIC? Kind regards, Cathy
sotonmate Posted 15 August , 2010 Share Posted 15 August , 2010 Cathy As you know the unit he served at the time of landing there will not be anything extra to learn from the MIC,apart perhaps from the references to the original medal Rolls,on which it MIGHT show the date of disembodiment(discharge). I have some notes from the War Diary (WO95/1250)on the initial deployment of 1 Division in August 1914. 26 Brigade RFA was one of their units, which,on 5 August was at Aldershot when mobilisation was called. From that point they equipped and prepared for combat readiness, and on 16 August entrained for Southampton where they boarded s.s.CARDIGANSHIRE and landed in Boulogne on the morning of the 17th. They again entrained and deployed at LE NOUVIOU on 20 August. They were in action from the 23rd. Sotonmate
