trying to get some information about

MICHAEL KEEGAN

5855 Conn Rangers 3rd Batt

from his number when did he join ?

he transfered to Royal Flying Corp on 26 jan 1918

any ideas as to why

from a document i got from the national archives on him

i have the following

Volunteered A of O [or maybe D]

M E F 16 11 1915 to 7 12 1917

unit RD Blac

CDD 27 4 1918

Equip and person Chingford

to Uxbridge 23 3 1920

Discharged from R A F Reserve 1920

sorry for so many questions

any help will be appreciated

Hi,

If he enlisted into the 3rd Battalion the number 5855 would give the date 14 May 1915

From Medal Card

Private Michael Keegan

Connaught Rangers,5855

Royal Air Force,144216

144216 : Block 143001 to 149000 March 1918 RFC - transfers

Requests would come through to the Battalion's looking for men with certain skills to join the RFC.

I found this example with the 3rd Battalion, The Connaught Rangers

'Notice posted in Battalion that Royal Flying Corps was looking for men to transfer to work as cabinet makers, A1 Category men were not eligible 22 Aug 1917'
