widavies Posted 11 August , 2010 Share Posted 11 August , 2010 Hi, While reading some material I came upon a reference to the Ducksbill mines #1, #2 and #3 at Givenchy in 1916. I know that in this region the 255th tunneling company was active for the earlier part of the year and this was relieved by an Australian tunneling Company later in the year. can anybody confirm if it was indeed one or both of these companies were involved with laying these mines. J Banning Posted 11 August , 2010 Share Posted 11 August , 2010 Hi Will - This was 254TC area and I am pretty sure they laid the mines. Have you a date in 1916 for these mine blows?

Hi Jeremy, I'm not sure when they blew the mines, but tunneling operations took place for sure in the early part of 1916, there are references to say that the 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers provided work parties for the miners in early 1916. Maybe if I can search the war diary for this regiment I may find out more about what tunnelling company was actually involved. Will
