Hi

Apologies if this is going over old ground.

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the Absentee Voters List for Belfast for the 1918 General Election?

Is it available online anywhere?

I have tried searching the Linenhall Library catalogue ("Absentee voter" and "absent voter" key words) to no avail. :(

Regards

Nigel

Nigel,

If you're able to track down the voter lists for Belfast, and if it's an easy thing to do, could you look up my grandfather, James McQuaid of Stratheden Street. He was with the Royal Engineers in France at the time. I was hoping it might give some information on exactly where he was, what unit, and etc. Once he went back to France with the RE his unit association became a mystery.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Regards,

Tyrim

Will Do. I have a friend who works for PRONI and is going to see that is archived and I have contacted the Electoral Commission to see if it has any archives. My fear is that the records might have been stored in Dublin and I understand that a lot of records were destroyed by fire during the Civil War.
