Adam Llewellyn Posted 6 August , 2010 Share Posted 6 August , 2010 Good day all, I've checked the LLT and also searched on the forum, but neither have come back with any information. I did get a hit after Googling the subject, the link was to a memorial website in Bedfordshire which listed a man D o W at home. My chap doesn't seem to have a MIC, so any help with what the company were involved in, and where, would be greatly appreciated. Best regards. Llew. sotonmate Posted 7 August , 2010 Share Posted 7 August , 2010 Llew That's interesting as it's the first War Diary reference I have seen for a home service unit. It's no surprise that your man has no MIC as if that is his only unit then he wouldn't have entered a war theatre ! Sotonmate
Ron Clifton Posted 7 August , 2010 Share Posted 7 August , 2010 Hello sotonmate A few units at home kept War Diaries but WO95/5460 contains the diaries of twelve infantry battalions, a casualty clearing station and seventeen companies ASC so I wouldn't expect much detail! Most of the diaries of home defence units, other than coast defences, seem to stop in March 1916. This file might also be of interest: WO 95/5466 Romsey Remount Depot 1914 Nov. - 1918 Apr. WO 95/5466 Shirehampton Remount Depot 1914 - 1916 WO 95/5466 The Home Mechanical Transport Depot ASC 1914 - 1918 WO 95/5466 Summary of Events Aldershot Command Army Service Corps 1917 Aug. - 1918 Sept. Adam Llewellyn Posted 7 August , 2010 Author Share Posted 7 August , 2010 The small amount of knowledge that I may have:whistle: , wouldn't have even registered that a home unit wouldn't have a diary of any sort, so thanks for pointing it out. Regards. Llew.
