Remembered Today:

John Wignall

My wife has bought a VM for me in relation to a chap from the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment:

Private John WIGNALL (2963).

His MIC indicates he served in the Balkans from 14/11/15. He was entitled to a trio and was "Spec. Res.". Doesn't look like any service record survives.

Anyone have anything more about him please?

Many thanks.

I think there are some papers, Maldon. This seems to be him:-

Name:John Wignall

Estimated birth year:abt 1897

Age at Enlistment:17

Birth County:Lancashire

Document Year:1914

Regiment Name:LN Lancs

Regt (SR)

Two sets of papers, one 4 pages, the other 38.

PM me and I'll have a quick nosey.

D/B 29.10.97 Born in Preston. Enlisted in Preston on 22 August 1914 aged 17 years 10 months. Employed as a spinner. Three postings with 3rd battalion, one with the 6th. Transferred to special reserve on demobilisation 12 May 1919. Conduct sheet a bit lively. "Embarked Liverpool per Olimpic 15/11/15". List of barely legible exotic places: Pelaish(?), Binra(?), Falahijeh(?), Sheikh Saad. Mention of "Mes Ex Force" Took his leave in India. Returns unmarried, nil wound stripes but entitled to four blue chevrons. A damaged "extract from Un[it]" mentions Lewis gunner.

Yup - some of it's hard to read, but I think it's mostly there.
