Remembered Today:

Boy Soldier or battalion Mascot

Hi everyone

Have found this photo among a number of WW 1 family photos. It looks interesting but puzzling.

The boy on the horse seems to have a tailor made uniform with a cap badge which I assume is of the Royal Worcestershire Regiment.

The writing on the wall behind him seems to read 3 MEN Riding school, then hours and possibly a d... Beneath that it looks like 8.WORCESTER.

Could this boy be a mascot?

The photo has the words Photo byF.J.Reynolds 164 High Street Maldon. I believe Maldon is in Essex.

I would guess that he is the son of the soldier holding the horse's head - 14 years old was the minimum age for entry in the Yeomanry and/or Territorial Force.

This looks like Gate Street, Maldon. The 8th were stationed here in town. Fantastic picture.
