Hi Eveybody

Would really appreciate any help or information anybody maybe able to offer in my search for my Grandfathers service record/s. As far as I am aware he was in the RGA, possibly No 42 Company, and I think I have narrowed him down to one of three different Joseph Day's, their regimental numbers are 115306, 196184 or 97614. I appreciate that this is all abit vague but any help or information would be gratefully received. Many thanks

I have a photograph of the entire company together with individual ones of my Grandfather, one taken in Great Yarmouth, the second in Sliema, Malta. As an addition to this according to his birth certificate my Grandfather did not have a middle initial

Just had a look at the photgraphs again, whilst the uniforms in both look nominally the same, the button spacing is different, so a transfer from one regiment to another would be a possibilty

That possibly leaves only 2 gunners; 115306 and 196184

As ianjonescl says 42 Coy was at Portsmouth, so you have three different locations; Portsmouth, Gt. Yarmouth and Malta. Gt. Yarmouth was No.4 Depot, up to Sept 1916, but did not have any Coys there as far as I am aware. Malta had No.s 1, 5, 63, 65, 96, 99, 100 and 102 Companies. Not sure about the different button spacing, but if you could identify different shoulder titles, RGA and RFA, then it may point to one over the other. Would take quite bit of research to really identify. Do you know what the medal rolls say? I would, however, be surprised if they have a unit listed.
