Royal Posted 31 July , 2010 Share Posted 31 July , 2010 Hi I am finally trying to find out information about a collection of buttons that i have had for years. Can anyone tell me if these artillery buttons are WW1 or WW2? The button on the left is spherical. Thanks for your help in advance. Royal Posted 31 July , 2010 Author Share Posted 31 July , 2010 Have found out that the far left one could be a pre WW1 Royal Horse Artillery?
Andrew Upton Posted 31 July , 2010 Share Posted 31 July , 2010 Can anyone tell me if these artillery buttons are WW1 or WW2? The button on the left is spherical. The buttons second from the left top and bottom are of the type used in both WW1 and WW2. The one on the left (and possibly some of the others, it's not easy to tell) have the Victorian style Queens Crown on them, which makes them pre-date her death in 1901. Heavily rounded buttons were used on some dress artillery jackets, but are also not that rare on tropical issue clothing. Given it's smaller size the former seems more likely. Staffsyeoman Posted 1 August , 2010 Share Posted 1 August , 2010 The smaller buttons could be officers' pocket or cuff buttons. Ball buttons were used on full dress jackets to fit through the frogging loops on the front. (See the modern King's Troop jackets for comparison).
