Guest jolimi Posted 28 July , 2010 Share Posted 28 July , 2010 Hi I don't have very much information on James. I found a site that said he was shelled in Aveloy. Another said he was killed at the battle of the Somme. Can anyone give me more information. When it say's "shelled" does that mean there was'nt a body to recover? Any help or information would be very much appreciated. Jo x
Amor Posted 28 July , 2010 Share Posted 28 July , 2010 Jo, According to his records in ancestry - this well may be James: Name: James Chappell Birth Place: Crofton, Wakefield Death Date: 5 Jul 1916 Death Location: France & Flanders Enlistment Location: Wakefield Rank: Sergeant Regiment: King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry) Battalion: 1/4th Battalion Number: 2476 Type of Casualty: Killed in action Theatre of War: Western European Theatre You can find his GWGC certificate here: http://www.cwgc.org/search/certificate.aspx?casualty=1543224 As he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial it means that his body was never identified.
