zijde26 Posted 3 June , 2004 Share Posted 3 June , 2004 To All, Almost all villages behind the Ypres Salient were full of rest camps. One of this rest camps was situated around the ' kasteelmolen' in Reninghelst. Beneath you will find a recent photo of a café not far (some 250 metres) from this rest camp. It is said that this café will be repaired and rebuild in the future. Gilbert Deraedt
Paul Reed Posted 3 June , 2004 Share Posted 3 June , 2004 Thanks for that Gilbert - I am presuming you are saying this cafe was in use during the war, and frequented by British Tommies? Do you know of any wartime photos of it? Seems a shame another original WW1 related building might go, but I am always aware of the right of locals to live their life - what does such preservation do for them, I wonder? zijde26 Posted 6 June , 2004 Author Share Posted 6 June , 2004 Cafe was held in that house until somewhere in 1956. At the moment, I have no further wartime photos of it. On the contrary, I have some three photos of the visit of king George to the Canadian Army, present at that time in that particular rest camp situated at about 250 m of that house.
