If you want to read the War Diary for the 2nd GH it is digital and can be downloaded for GBP3.50. from the NA Catalogue. WO95/1656 runs from Oct 1914 to Nov 1917.

Becordel-Becourt is a short distance east of Albert, where no attacks/battles of any scale were being fought,so we might assume that his was a casualty of the day-to-day trench activity of sniping, shelling, raiding etc. The Diary will help.

Thanks to you both, I'm obliged, I downloaded the diary and it appears that Finlay and another man were killed by a rifle grenade with two others being wounded.
