connaughtranger Posted 11 July , 2010 Share Posted 11 July , 2010 Hi According to the history the Battalion was in the line between Cherisy and the Cojeul River from the night of 24/25th April until the 28th. The Brigade account claims that the heavy shelling here was worse than on the Somme the previous year. Casualties: 1 Officer and 40 OR's Martin

ianw Posted 12 July , 2010 Share Posted 12 July , 2010 I suppose like many battalions , they had bad times with shelling. My Great Uncle was killed by shellfire (no known grave - Menin Gate) in Jan 1916 with the 9th RB at Ypres.

JimSmithson Posted 13 July , 2010 Share Posted 13 July , 2010 No problem. If you want any more information or photos of the area just let me know. Also if you put Cherisy into a search on here you will get an enormous amount of material, lots of it from Andy (Stiletto) who is a 14th Division expert. I just follow in his wake as far as that unit is concerned. Jim
