Remembered Today:

RETURNING DEATH PLAQUES

Dave Arnold

Recommended Posts

Hello,

amongst my late father-in-law's estate (He was in 57th Anti tank Regt and captured May 1940 then Stalag XXb till last successful escape March 1945) are two WW1 Death Plaques.

These were given to him well over 20 years ago by a fellow who discovered at least one of them buried in a garden, with resultant damage. Both have some face damage. Worst one is mishapen and has been highly polished to the extent that the name. Tom Mansell is barely legible. Slightly better one is named for Charles Jones. Both plaques came fromempty properties in the West Mids as far as I know

A quick look on CWG has not uncovered anything and I thought that I would see if any of the Forum members have an interest or can help. Although I see that these have some monetary value my aim is to return them to the families if possible.

thanks

Dave Arnold

Both grandfathers Notts & Derby survivors!

Dave,

I believe this is Tom Mansell: http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=804463

It has the address of his next of kin - could be a starting point to tracking the family.

Unfortunately there are 328 C Jones. Obviously not all would be Charles. If you were looking for a West Midlands address, it could be possible. I'll see if I can find anything.

Best

JC

There seem to be quite a few Charles Jones related to the West Midlands. I'm sure someone else will be along who may be able to offer better direction.

The list:

JC

Thanks for the inputs JCR, I must have had my wires crossed on the CWG as my enquiries both scored 0.

I appreciate the start. Will try the Worcs/Warks Jones first.

best regards

Dave
