mark pearson Posted 5 July , 2010 Share Posted 5 July , 2010 i have come across the 11 Divs tactial Flash, but I was wondering if any knowledgable member would know how or why it was given that particular badge. does it have a name? Secondly i understand that individual units wore shoulder titles but did the tactical flash extend down to brigade level? ie I wear the black ace on redbackground of 12 mech brigade but not a divisional flash. Intrigued to know Percy

stevem49 Posted 15 July , 2010 Share Posted 15 July , 2010 The 11th (Northern) Division had the 'Anka' which is the key of life. Not sure why though. Not sure about brigade but Battalions within the brigade had tactical flashes on the rear of the colour. Steve M
Arthur Posted 16 July , 2010 Share Posted 16 July , 2010 Hello Percy, Mike Chappell's British Battle Insignia 1914-18: 11th [Northern] Division adopted rectangles coloured to show brigade: 32nd Bde Red 33rd Bde Green 34th Bde Yellow The rectangles bore Roman numerals indicating the battalions in the brigade. First worn on the tropical helmet in the Middle East, they were transferred to the back of the tunic collar on arrival in France in 1916.
