cowleys Posted 27 June , 2010 Share Posted 27 June , 2010 I have a soldier in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) died of wounds at home in Sheffield. CWGC Ernest Swift age 36yrs died 15.1.1916 served as Ernest SCOTT 7674 His medal card on Ancestry shows all 3 medals and qualifying date 15.8.1914 1st S-Rifles. I am wondering if he may have been in Galliopi. I have no idea why he served under another name. Any help much appreciated. Lesley

roughdiamond Posted 28 June , 2010 Share Posted 28 June , 2010 As Gary said 1st Cam's spent the entire war in France and Belgium upto his death, there is an excellent book which covers their time from arrival in France, it's called "General Jack's Diary", at the outbreak of war Captain, later General Jack was with the Cameronians when they went to France and the book is a transcription of his (at times) detailed diary. http://www.amazon.co.uk/General-1914-18-Ca...2053&sr=1-1 Sam
