Remembered Today:

Soldier-artist in RGA

Peter Doyle

Recommended Posts

I have just picked up a nice sketch book put together by a soldier in the RGA, depicting aspects of life 'at the front'. I have his initials and his regimental number, but no name. Can anyone help me put a name to the artist?

These are the details I have:

Initials: N.V.C.

Date of service: One of the drawings is dated July 1918

Unit: Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA)

Regimental Number: 142460

Any help would be gratefully received!

Peter

There's a MIC for 142460 Gunner Norman V Church RGA under WO 372/4.

Thanks guys, that really is most kind. I am an Ancestry subscriber - but often find it difficult to search. Must practice more.

Thanks again

Without his service records it is impossible to be 100% certain, but it is highly likely he was an RFA gunner before being transferred to the RGA. It is therefore impossible to say when he enlisted, but may well have been serving with the RGA in France before being officially transferred. Pity a battery isn't mentioned.
