John Gilinsky Posted 23 June , 2010 Share Posted 23 June , 2010 Found an old printed off from net advertisement with a scan of a CEF (29th. and 54th. both British Columbia Canada battalions) soldier's paybook probably circa 1916(?) though there is not author, printer nor date on the 1 page listing of abbreviations. NOT sure if this is BEF and/or CEF - (?) Can anyone clarify this? Here it is in full: "Qualifications will be shown by initials as follows: - Rifle Bomber "R. B." Lewis Gunner "L." Vickers Gunner "V." Maxim Gunner "M." Hotchkiss Gunner "H." Battlion and Company Specialists : - Light Trench Mortar "L.T.M." P. and B.T. "P.T." [ John - sorry I don't know what P. and B. T. mean! ] Signaller (1st. Class) "S.1." *If qualified in Wireless Telegraphy add "W.T." Signaller (2nd. Class) "S.2." *If qualified in Wireless Telegraphy add "W.T." Stretcher Bearer "S.B." Transport Driver "T.D." Cold Shoer "C.S." Cook "C." Tailor "T." Barber "BA." Shoemaker "S.M." Chiropodist "C.H." Regimental Pioneer "R.P." Pioneer School "P.S." Groom "G." I hope the above list may help genealogists, researchers, medal collectors and others. John Toronto Canada
Ron Clifton Posted 23 June , 2010 Share Posted 23 June , 2010 Hello John To clarify one item in your list, P.& B.T. is Physical and Bayonet Training. Are you sure that R.P. is regimental pioneer? It could be regimental police. Ron
John Gilinsky Posted 25 June , 2010 Author Share Posted 25 June , 2010 Thanks Ron for your information. Nope. I simply transcribed accurately! what I found from the net page printed off some time ago. I hope others can come up with an ACI or AO or the like to clarify this list.
