his name was joseph vaughan vickers born 1885 and lived in chester.

he survived the war and died in 1962.

on Ancestry there are 10 Joseph Vickers in the artillery but only 1 with V as a middle initial. Jos V Vickers, Gunner, Royal Field Artillery. First number 1258 and then 735582. Entered France 22/11/1915; awarded the 1915 Star, BWM and VM. No service record or pension record that I can see.

Birth entry for Q3 1885 in Ellesmere registration district. Appears in 1 private and 1 public family tree; his date of death is given as 8th Feb 1961.

There is a marriage record for a Joseph V Vickers, 1910, Wexham. 1891 census has a Joseph V Vickers in Whitchurch, born Bronnington, Flintshire with parents Jemma Jones and John Jones with 2 youngers Jones children. Possible that the mother re-married?

A son appears to be commemorated on CWGC

thanks johnny.

that is certainly the right joseph vickers as his son william ewart was my great uncle. i have his death date as 1961. he died of head wounds after a collision with a motorcycle in hoole, chester.

interesting part about the mother being remarried. as far as i know his mother was called jemima but that could easily be jemma.

few things to go from there, many thanks again .
