johnny_doyle Posted 20 June , 2010 Share Posted 20 June , 2010 on Ancestry there are 10 Joseph Vickers in the artillery but only 1 with V as a middle initial. Jos V Vickers, Gunner, Royal Field Artillery. First number 1258 and then 735582. Entered France 22/11/1915; awarded the 1915 Star, BWM and VM. No service record or pension record that I can see. Birth entry for Q3 1885 in Ellesmere registration district. Appears in 1 private and 1 public family tree; his date of death is given as 8th Feb 1961. There is a marriage record for a Joseph V Vickers, 1910, Wexham. 1891 census has a Joseph V Vickers in Whitchurch, born Bronnington, Flintshire with parents Jemma Jones and John Jones with 2 youngers Jones children. Possible that the mother re-married? A son appears to be commemorated on CWGC http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...asualty=1526495
vico Posted 20 June , 2010 Author Share Posted 20 June , 2010 thanks johnny. that is certainly the right joseph vickers as his son william ewart was my great uncle. i have his death date as 1961. he died of head wounds after a collision with a motorcycle in hoole, chester. interesting part about the mother being remarried. as far as i know his mother was called jemima but that could easily be jemma. few things to go from there, many thanks again .
