Pals

Sgt P Hearty was killed 28th August 1916 whilst serving with C Battery 250th Brigade. (note he is commemorated as F Hearty on the 250 Bde RFA ROH)

CWGC Information

C / 250 was formerly the 3rd Northumberland Battery of the 1st Northumbrian Brigade. The Battery was known as the Elswick Battery as it's drill hall was based within the Armstrong Elswick Ordnance factory on the Tyne. Most of the men in the Battery worked at the Armstrong factory. During the Boer War the Battery deployed to South Africa.

According to the War History of the 1st Northumberland Brigade, Sgt Hearty "had been in the Battery in South Africa".

Checking the nominal role for those deployed to South Arfrica, I find he is not listed. Searching the National Archives I find no reference in the WO department.

Any information on Sgt Hearty would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

He would have been 25 when the Elswick Battery deployed to South Africa. Key question is did he ?

Either the nominal role is incorrect or the War History is incorrect !

Hes not in the 1901 census, but that may be because he's still in Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland‎ or he's off playing with the Boer.

Your gonna have to get some one to look at the Irish 1901 census for him
