Manpower Shortages in the EEF - Oct 1917

Interesting snippet I came across today which I had not seen before.

In October 1917 the "Civilian Employment Buraeu for the Egyptian Expeditionary Force" was established. Formed under the administration of "Mr Wells" the Director General of Education, Egyptian Government. It was tasked with recruiting 10000 women or war illegible men to free off fit men for active service. Its head office was set up in Cairo.

This during the time that LOC and Garrison troops were being combed out to fill the newly formed divisions / Bde's then coming into service and another indication of how severe the manpower shortages were becoming by this time.

Regards

Dave.
