Hello

Can anyone help identify which company or Battalion this chap would have been a Captain in.

Vernon Vart

Two mentions in the Gazette and service records on Ancestry, but no mention of the Labour Corps

except on his medal card.

His gson mentioned a connection to the Chinese Labour Corps

There is a Faculty Office marriage licence, dated 1919, for Vernon Vart, 'Lieutenant Chinese Labour Corps', of Bishop Auckland, Durham, and Jeannie Anne Leith Doran, to marry at Wanstead St Mary.

It's in a bundle of marriage licences (Ref. D/P 292/1/58) among Wanstead parish records at the Essex Record Office.

Hope this helps

PS have also just found this interesting CWGC publication, 'The Chinese Labour Corps at the Western Front'
