Hi Pals, friend has an uncle, C H Hiles, killed with above unit in mid July 1918 buried at Abeele Aerodrome cemetery outside Pop. Anyone have any information on this unit, 18th Batt Lancashire Fusiliers, early to mid July 1918. Were they just holding the line in this area or anything more? Many thanks SG

SG,

The diary is not very legible at the time you quote, the 16th. , however they were moving up to support trenches on the 15th. & the "crossing at Loye" (could be Locre) is mentioned. As for the raid on the 14th. not exactly a success . As I mentioned not very legible in that portion of the diary, sorry I could not assist further.

Colin.
