Bob Chandler Posted 15 June , 2010 Share Posted 15 June , 2010 As a child (yes, I was one once!) I obtained through a 'swap' the Victory Medal of Pte H M WEIR S/14716, A&SH. I have no family connection to the medal. By complete coincidence, we will be visiting the Regimental museum next week whilst on holiday in Scotland and I was thinking of asking whether they would like the medal. I've been doing a little preparatory research and apart from the Medal Index Card which tells me his full name (Hamish McD Weir) and that he was not entitled to the Star, there appears to be nothing else available on line. Can I deduce anything just from the service number? E.g. Battalion or date of enlistment? Many thanks for any help Charles
PPCLI Posted 15 June , 2010 Share Posted 15 June , 2010 Hi Charles, Forum member Paul Nixon's blog gives A&SH service battalion dates of issue. Looks like late 1915. You might as well keep a hold of the medal because it is unlikely to ever see the light of day at the museum. It is unusual to see single medals displayed at regimental museums, but I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise when you consider all the various wars, medal group combinations etc held by these institutions. Best wishes, Stuart
