gladys cutajar Posted 15 June , 2010 Share Posted 15 June , 2010 Hello Scots Guards group photo "Wells No 9 Broad St our billett MTASC" second photo is of family. Soldier is in group photo fourth from right. I think he is a Scots Guard. These were in my grandparents album. Would have been a friend or relation. Grandfather was James Graham from Glengarnock. Relations would have been Grahams or Gracies. Any ideas! The property is now a real estate agency in Somerset. Regards Gladys
headgardener Posted 15 June , 2010 Share Posted 15 June , 2010 Not Scots Guards; the clue is in the title "MT ASC" - Motor Transport, Army Service Corps. There was a large ASC presence at Wells in 1915. Can't remember the units, but I'm sure that someone here will. The cap badge could look a little like a Scots Guards badge from a distance. Peridot Posted 15 June , 2010 Share Posted 15 June , 2010 Gladys-MTASC will stand for Motor Transport Army Service Corps and Wells was an important base and training area where new Units were often formed and put into shape prior to posting to Theatre abroad. Soldiers were billeted in Wells and the surrounding villages. A likely nearby departure point for France would have been Avonmouth where the ASC Tractor Depot also was.
