Does anyone know the activities and exact locations of this Belgian Army Regiment (specifically nr. 1 Company) during the month of June 1917?

Thanks.

I've managed to find a short history of the 1e Linie which basically just mentions them 'holding the line' on the Ijzerfront from November 1914 to September 1918 (by which time the 5th division held the line 'Nieuwpoort-Pervijze') - which, to be honest, isn't any great revelation in all reality!

Can anyone expand on this at all ... especially for the month which mainly interests me? Ideally, I need locations/ exact sectors held for it to be of help.

Thanks ,

Dave

Through trial and error (well, cross referencing the places of death with particular dates for the list of 1ste Linie casualties actually), I've managed to come up with them being at Kaaskirke (Dixmude) in July 1915, then, via several locations, moving southwards and occupying the Boezinge-Het Sas front between (at least) June and September 1916. A very slight move to the north (Steenstraat) was then made in October 1916 where they seem to have stayed for a couple of months at least. They appear to be out of the line (but still in the general vicinity - Westvleteren) in January 1917.

Now that's where I've his a dead end using this method (as 1ste Brigade KIA casualties seem to drop dramatically at this point - (perhaps signifying time spent away from the line?)! I know , due to a seperate research project, that a different division was occupying the Steenstraat front in March 1917 ,so ....(to refine my initial query)... does anyone know where the 1ste Linie (or even the 5th Division as a whole) was between March and July 1917?

Thanks.

Thanks Inniskilling.... but I think wer'e talking about two different 5th Divisions.

Its the Belgian 5e Infanteriedivisie that I'm looking for information on the whereabouts of (who, as far as I can acertain, didn't serve further south than the Ijzer Kanal). You were correct though...the British 5th Division (and the 5th Bavarian Division) both served at Arras in 1917.

I'm getting closer! :glare:

June 1917 ... 5th Division holding the front area in front of Zuidschote to Noordschote (ie. Steenstraate to Drie Grachten). I assume 1e Linie to be at Drie Grachten. Anyone able to be more accurate?

Cheers.
