Edward Hewett Williams Lt. Help please

I am attempting to help a lady from the US of A.

I have found Edward Hewett Williams in the Gazette for the 17th Bantams Lancashire Fusilers. I cannot find anything in the Gazette for his Sherwood Forester move and Captaincy.

If anyone can help with either of the Regiment, I would be most obliged. I cannot find him in any of the SF Battalions that I have lists for.

Thanks

Steve M

WO338 Index to Officers Long Number Service Papers has his entry as;

Williams, Edward Hewett 17/20 15/45 57381. 2/Lieut. Born 1877.

Translated it means he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 17th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers (17/20) followed by service in the 15th Bn. Sherwood Foresters (Notts. and Derby. Regiment) (15/45). The 57381 relates to his personnel file but I can't see an obvious candidate for it on the National Archives website.

Many many thanks Steve.

Not sure why I could not find it in the gazette! The 15th SF would be the logical Bn being in the same Bantam Division as the 17th LF.

I am in your debt as will the lady in the US of A. be.

Cheers

Steve

Of course I have also just realised that I have the 15th Bn book and he is mentioned in it!

Apparently he was born in Jamaica (1878) and died at Fordingbridge (29 March 1954) Son of Rev. Phillip Williams and Sarah Elyssa Hewett Williams.

Thanks for the info chaps. Much appreciated.
