PeterH Posted 14 June , 2010 Share Posted 14 June , 2010 Martin Marix-Evans' Forgotten Battlefronts of the First World War mentions Greek bandits and Greek army deserters raiding military wagon columns enroute from Salonika to the frontlines in 1916.It appears mounted and cavalry units were hence required to guard supplies up to the front.Marix-Evans also mentions the Royal Marines cutting down a large number of bandits in an episode when the surrender of a bandit group was conveyed to the army but not the Royal Navy.Appears the bandit problem was somewhat solved by 1917.
