SmithToton Posted 11 June , 2010 Share Posted 11 June , 2010 Hi I'm trying to find out any information about the Kantara Demobilization Camp - my grandfather Albert Victor Gray served there during WWI. My Aunty has found a letter dated 18.12.1919 showing he was relieved from his duty to defend in a Court Martial case and the number EC 28/ 5844 is on the top of the letter. The only other information I have is Rifle Brigade 97 Demob Camp EEF130. Can anybody help me find out what he did out in Egypt ? Thanks Angie

Ron Clifton Posted 12 June , 2010 Share Posted 12 June , 2010 Hello Angie By coincidence I have just finished reading "Mutiny" by Lawrence James (London: Buchan and Enright 1987) which deals with unrest in the British and Commonwealth armed forces from 1797 to 1956. It includes a section on the disturbances at Kantara in 1919. There were a number of incidents throughout the Army in 1919 which were technically cases of mutiny, but really were more like strikes. Your local library may have a copy, or may be able to get one for you through the inter-library loan service. Ron
