Rockdoc Posted 29 May , 2010 Share Posted 29 May , 2010 Having finished the bulk of the transcriptions of the AA Sections' War Diaries, I've begun my analysis. I extracted all the locations used by each Section - each gun if they worked as Subs - and the date when they arrived at the new position. The first two to arrive 32nd and, especially, 24th moved around quite frequently from the time they moved out of The Birdcage until about May 1917, when additional Sections arrived on the XII Corps front. XVI Corps does not seem to have had its AA guns move to the same extent, even during the period from October 1916 to the end of January 1917 when it only had 74th AAS in its area. There are two obvious conclusions to draw from this: 1) the CRA at XII Corps had no idea how to use AA guns and 2) XII Corps moved its vulnerable equipment more often than XVI Corps. Without a second source I can't see how to move forward. The Diaries only rarely give a reason for moves so I checked the TNA Catalogue and A2A but there does not appear to be any related record at Corps level. Any suggestions?
