Guest argyll Posted 27 May , 2004 Share Posted 27 May , 2004 Hello all, my first post......I am currently researching my grandfather Pte/Lt Edward John Langdon Coles of the 156th Bn CEF and then the 2nd Bn CEF (East Ontario Regiment). Anything that anyone has on either unit or this fine gentleman would be tremendously appreciated. He went by Jack Coles. Thanks to all
Guest Hill 60 Posted 27 May , 2004 Share Posted 27 May , 2004 Argyll - Welcome to the Forum. Your grandfather was 5' 10" with light brown hair, blues eyes, fair complexion and a scar over his right shoulder blade. He was born on 4th December 1898 and lived with his mother at 518 George Street, Woodstock, Ontario. He was a student when he joined up on 9th May 1916 (51 years to the day before I was born!). Before you think I am some sort of mystic have a look at the following website where you'll find the attestation papers (go to the part marked 'Soldiers of the First World War -- Canadian Expeditionary Force') for your grandfather and another link to Battalion War Diaries.
