ianjonesncl Posted 18 May , 2010 Share Posted 18 May , 2010 Pals I need some help to identify a German spiked helmet which belongs to an American friend of mine. His grandfather served in the American 77th Division and obviously picked this up as a souvenir. Any idea on what it is, what the badge is and any other information would be gratefully appreciated. Any indication to it's value would also be appreciated.
joerookery Posted 18 May , 2010 Share Posted 18 May , 2010 It is an example of a Prussian Ersatz felt helmet. The fittings are primarily steel. The Spike screws off like a bayonet. The chin strap and cockades seem to be missing. Any markings on the inside can help us identify unit.
trenchtrotter Posted 18 May , 2010 Share Posted 18 May , 2010 £250 to £300 if in good condition. Missing cockades and chin strap. Top condition with cockades etc and if offered by main dealers £500. TT
