German spiked helmet identification required

Pals

I need some help to identify a German spiked helmet which belongs to an American friend of mine.

His grandfather served in the American 77th Division and obviously picked this up as a souvenir.

Any idea on what it is, what the badge is and any other information would be gratefully appreciated. Any indication to it's value would also be appreciated.

It is an example of a Prussian Ersatz felt helmet. The fittings are primarily steel. The Spike screws off like a bayonet. The chin strap and cockades seem to be missing. Any markings on the inside can help us identify unit.

£250 to £300 if in good condition. Missing cockades and chin strap. Top condition with cockades etc and if offered by main dealers £500.

Many thanks for the information and guidance.

My Friend is checking to see if the helmet has any further clues.
