NeilEvans Posted 13 May , 2010 Share Posted 13 May , 2010 Hi, I know there're a couple of CG experts on the forum so i'm hoping you can help me. I'm currently researching the chap below. Foulkes, Isaac. Private, 17390, 1st Bn. Coldstream Guards. Killed in Action 16/10/1918. Aged 24. Remembered upon Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France. Panel 3. Could any one tell me what the CG were doing at the time of his death? Also am i right in thinking he enlisted in late 1915? Neil
CT-Guards Posted 13 May , 2010 Share Posted 13 May , 2010 1st CG were held in reserve between Carnieres & Boussieres, then holding St. Python. In these operations called the Second Battle of Le Cateau, twenty infantry and two cavalry divisions and one American division routed twenty-four German divisions and took 12,000 prisoners and 250 guns. Losses to the CG from the 8th to the 16th amounted to 110 all ranks. 1st lost (KIA & DOW) 2 officers & 11 other ranks. Hope that helps. PM your email address and I'll send more details if you need them.
CT-Guards Posted 14 May , 2010 Share Posted 14 May , 2010 As to the above there were further actions on the 16th, which will chnage the casualty statistics. I will update this thread later when I am in front of my info.

Nulli Secundus Posted 1 August , 2010 Share Posted 1 August , 2010 An excellent book has just been republished that covers his period. It's called The Distant Drum it is a private soldiers account which is a fantastic, insightful read.
