ianjonesncl Posted 12 May , 2010 Share Posted 12 May , 2010 44th Brigade RFA were a Regular Army Brigade. In 1914 they were equipped with 4.5" Howitzers, and consisted of 47 / 56 / 60 Batteries. On 23rd June 1915,60 Battery was moved to the 3rd Indian Division. The Brigade was broken up 26th May 1915, 47 Battery (less 1 section) going to 41 Brigade RFA , 56 Battery (less 1 section) to 34 Brigade RFA. The two sections went to form D Battery 36 Brigade RFA. I believe this re-organisation was part of the establishing RFA Brigades as 3 x 18 pounder gun batteries, and 1 x 4.5" Howitzer Battery, wherever possible. The Brigade was reformed in England in 1917 and moved to Egypt 3 July 1917 as part of the 74th Divisional Artillery. Details of 74 Division actions can be found on the Long Long Trail HERE
