cruddy Posted 11 May , 2010 Share Posted 11 May , 2010 Hello All, I appreciate that this is not WW1 but I hope that someone may be able to offer an opinion. My Gt Granddad (born 1852) was a Railway Clerk for the NER, and from the latest additions to the 19th Century British Newspaper collections, I have found that he played cricket for his village team and also other teams when he moved home. He also entered his caged birds (crested canaries) in various shows throughout the area. I was delighted to find such unknown details about him, but then came the completely unexpected entry on July 17th 1894. Bisley Shooting (presumably a list of winners) which included 5th V.B. DLI Quartermaster Sergeant J. Cruddace, Gateshead. As far as I've been able to find out, he was the only J. Cruddace in the area at that time. What would be the chances of him going through life with no mention of him being with the DLI, if it was him? Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Regards, Colin
grantowi Posted 11 May , 2010 Share Posted 11 May , 2010 There's a Harry Cruddace, Sgt in the DLI in TNA - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=2 Could be a typo, H & J are next door to each other on a QWERTY keyboard Grant
