pearsonica Posted 10 May , 2010 Share Posted 10 May , 2010 Hi can someone help me in trying to find information on my Grandmothers Brother. I have found his Marriage Certificate on Ancestry.com London, England, Marriage and Banns 1754-1921 Records It shows that on Feb 20th 1919 a John Whipp Goode aged 26 Married a Ruby Constance White. His occupation is shown as Lieutenant MGC (this is smugged and I guess means Machine Gun Corpe) his address was 94 Heath St Hampstead. I cannot find anything about him in the medal Index or in the London Gazzette. He had 3 other brothers and step brothers who I am unable to find any record William Crowe Goode b1875 Sehurst, Croydon Francis Greayer Goode b1883 ditto Charles Whipp Goode b1901 ditto any help would be welcome Regards Bigs

Staffsyeoman Posted 11 May , 2010 Share Posted 11 May , 2010 28th London Regiment (Artists Rifles) makes some sense as the first instructors at the first MG school in France were 28th London NCOs (many subsequently commisssioned), unless he joined later

pearsonica Posted 9 August , 2010 Author Share Posted 9 August , 2010 Many thanks to you all thats Brilliant Here is a little post script I found on Google He was a Groundsman Stanmore Cricket Club and that he died of old age "The Club’s thanks are due in no small measure to Messrs. Southern, Dearsly, Allsop, Yeo and Henshaw, and also to John Whipp-Goode, for a number of years our most enthusiastic amateur groundsman, for the excellent work put in during the war years, in keeping the ground in a reasonable condition, and thus averting a repetition of the difficulties which overtook the Club following the previous World War. Death registered Eastbourne Nov 1964 Married Ruby Constance White on 20th Feb 1919 Christ Church, Hamstead, Middlesex. before he handed in his commission due to ill health. They had at least two children Regards Ian Pearson
