Help with London Gazette

Can anyone help me come to grips with the workings of the London Gazette.

I am looking for information on 2nd Lieutenant John Henry Temple 1/4th East Yorkshire Regiment and particulary when his promotion from Acting Sergeant to 2nd Lieutenant was published

I hope someone knows how to work the gazettes search engine. I believe he was orginally with the Kings Royal Riffles.

Can't find him in the London Gazette, but his medal card lists him as A/Sgt KRRC, 2Lt 4th E Yorks 24/11/17, entered France 29/8/16.

His card is noted "Comm 27-11-17 " dow 21-5-18. Ralph.

I assume that commissioned 27 11 17 is what I cant find in the Gazette
