Remembered Today:

Canadian Greatcoat, what do you think?

Around 10 years ago, I posted these photos to see if anyone could shed a bit of light on this Canadian pattern great coat.

Unfortunately I have not found any new info about it since.

My best guess is that it is a pre-war militia pattern. If differs in many ways from the Canadian 7 button greatcoat

There are less buttons, there is a small ticket pocket on the left sleeve, hidden front buttons except the top button, etc etc.

The only two photos I've ever found of anyone wearing it have been posted below.

Based on the details I am of the opinion that not unlike many other Canadian uniform items, it was issued and worn in Canada

and perhaps in the UK but not in France.

If anyone has any info

Please advise

Thanks

Roger

Roger,

can't really help on the coat pattern. They occasionally show-up in photos and there are a few originals around for sale.

Hey Joe

Hmm, yes I know. I've seen them creep up from time to time.

but no one has any solid proof of when they were issued and worn.

I wonder if the issue date of the British pattern 1909 OR's Greatcoat (with small ticket pocket)

coincides with the issue date of this one, or perhaps followed one year later in 1910?

Thanks anyhow.

I have one of these great coats also. I don't know much about it, but Great War militaria has one listed as a M1902 great coat. Don't know how accurate that is, I have not been able to find much about them either.
