corisande Posted 30 April , 2010 Share Posted 30 April , 2010 As you may know, I am researching Casements Irish Brigade recruited from "Irish" POWs. One of the few that remain unidentified is the "man in the Cheshire Regiment". A reliable source, who had correctly identified a stack of Irish Brigade men correctly by name in POW debrief, also said that there was one from the Cheshire Regiment in the Irish Brigade, but he did not know the man's name. I am down to only 3 men without a regiment among Casements followers. The evidence seems to say that only one of the 3 could be in the Cheshires and a POW, that is 6062 John Lynch, whose MIC does say POW. I am now trying to see if my hypothesis is correct. Can anyone tell me when 6062 would have enlisted. The MIC gives him landing in France 12 Sept 1914, but does not give any other Service Numbers for him. Can anyone add anything that might help identify this man. John Lynch is such a common name that it is difficult to narrow in censuses without more information. corisande Posted 1 May , 2010 Author Share Posted 1 May , 2010 Hywyn has kindly sent me some useful information, that makes me realise that I need do a bit more digging on the "man in the Cheshires" Has anyone got a list of Cheshire POWs taken in 1914. This man, John Lynch was taken prisoner on 22 Oct 1914, and it indicates that there may be a list around. I appreciate that the war diary is unlikely to record names.
